Written steps
Step 1
Write a short explanation for each scene. Record your own voice or prepare synthetic speech, then check the words, pronunciation and pauses. Use audio you have permission to use.
Step 2
Open Uploads and choose Audio. Use Upload files to add a file from your computer. Check its name and duration; the practice voiceover is 22 seconds long.
Step 3
Click the file name to insert it. The small play button previews the file. Check the playhead: Canva places the audio there and may trim the end to fit the video.
Step 4
Drag the middle of the whole audio track to zero. Moving the track changes when it starts; dragging an edge changes its trim.
Step 5
Drag the right edge to restore the complete 22-second file. Check the opening and final sentence. Preserve your original audio file.
Step 6
Select the track and open Volume. The example uses 100 percent. Judge the result by listening, and adjust any music separately so that the voice remains clear.
Step 7
Open Preview and listen to the whole video. Check that each sentence matches its scene and that the ending is complete.
Step 8
Close the preview and correct mismatches. Shorten a sentence or extend its scene instead of making the voice unnaturally fast.
What you need
Open the three-scene video and prepare an audio file you have permission to use. The recording shows the English interface.

A voiceover should explain the important points without competing with the screen. Write a short script for each scene first. Here we use a synthetic English voice with pauses for reading. You can also record your own voice. Always check the words, pronunciation, and timing. Open Uploads and choose Audio. Our prepared voiceover is already uploaded. To add your own file, use Upload files and select it from your computer. Check its name and duration. This practice file is twenty two seconds long and matches our three scenes. Use only audio you have the right to use. Click the name of the voiceover file. The small play button beside it only previews the file. Notice that Canva places the track at the current playhead. Our playhead is inside the video, so the voice starts too late and the end of the file is trimmed. Drag the whole audio track left until it lines up with the start of the video. Grab the middle of the track, not its edge. Check that it begins at zero. Moving the track changes where it plays in the video. It is different from trimming the audio content. Drag the right edge of the audio track to the end of the video. The file now covers all twenty two seconds. Check both ends, so you do not lose an opening word or cut off the final sentence. Keep the original audio file in case you need to restore a trim. Click Volume. The number shows the level for this track. Here we keep one hundred percent. Check the actual result by listening. If you add background music, keep it quiet enough for the voice to remain clear. Adjust music separately, and listen to the entire finished video. Listen to the whole invitation and check that the words match the scenes. Click Preview. Click Close to return to editing. Correct anything that does not fit. If a sentence is too long, shorten the script or extend the scene. Avoid making the voice unnaturally fast. Try your own short explanation with a clear opening and ending. In the next lesson, we will add captions.
