Written steps
Step 1
A Brand Kit stores reusable logos, colours and fonts. We will make a separate kit for our fictional Community Garden and apply it to a practice card. Check your account access and role first. We use the access already available here, and only change our own course materials.
Step 2
Click the kit name on the left. Choose Create new Brand Kit. Enter Community Garden, video course. Check the name, then click Create. A clear practice name keeps this exercise separate from your organisation’s real brand materials.
Step 3
Open Colors. Click Add a new color. Enter the green hex code shown in the exercise, then press Enter. Click Add a new color again and enter the cream code, then press Enter. Check both saved swatches. A small, consistent palette is easier to use, and text still needs enough contrast against its background.
Step 4
Open Fonts and choose Title. Open the font selector. Search for Montserrat and select it. Wait for the font name to appear in the selector. Set the size to forty-eight, turn on Bold, then Save. This is a reusable starting style. Adjust the size for each format and check how the actual words fit.
Step 5
Choose Body and open the font selector. Search for Open Sans and select it. Wait for its name to appear in the selector. Set the size to twenty-four, then Save. The kit now has a distinctive title style and a simple body style. Two well-chosen fonts can provide enough variety for this exercise.
Step 6
Open Logos, then Add brand assets. Choose Upload files and select your own logo from the computer. We use an original practice logo with a sprout. Wait for it to appear and inspect the result. Use only material you have permission to use.
Step 7
In your own practice design, open Brand. Open the Brand Kit selector and choose Community Garden, video course. Check the name in the panel. We start on a blank, cream-coloured card, so the saved styles are easy to inspect.
Step 8
Open Fonts in the Brand panel. Click Title to insert a new text box with the saved style. Type Community Garden, then press Escape. Check the toolbar: Montserrat, size forty-eight and bold. Choosing a brand text style inserts a new text box here, so avoid adding unnecessary duplicates.
Step 9
Click Body. Type Community garden day, followed by a line break and the date and time shown here. Press Escape. Check Open Sans and the saved size. A Brand Kit stores visual choices; it cannot check dates or event facts for you. Review those in every copy.
Step 10
Open Logos and click the practice logo. Open Position. Keep the proportions locked and set the width to one hundred and forty. For this square card, set X to four hundred and seventy and Y to three hundred. Press Enter after each number. The logo needs clear space around it.
Step 11
Place the text below the logo. Select the title, open Position and set Y to four hundred and eighty. Then select the body text and set Y to six hundred. Check the spacing. These numbers fit our practice card; your format and wording determine the right positions.
Step 12
With the body text selected, open Text color. Choose the dark green from our Brand Kit. Use Change all only if the same old text colour should be replaced on this page. Check both the title and body afterwards. Consistent colour must also remain readable against the background.
Step 13
Review the whole card: one logo, a consistent palette, and a clear difference between title and body text. Check the words, contrast, spacing and alignment. Try making another card with this kit and different fictional event details. Reuse the visual choices, then review the content and layout again.
