Written steps
Step 1
One message often needs several formats. We will turn our square Community Garden card into a portrait story, keep the original, and adapt the copy. Automatic resizing is a starting point. You still need to review the layout, wording and readability.
Step 2
Start in your own square practice design. Click Resize at the top. This feature needs the relevant account access. If it is unavailable, create a new design at the required dimensions and copy your own elements into it. Both methods need a careful layout review.
Step 3
Choose Instagram Story. Check the dimensions: one thousand and eighty by one thousand nine hundred and twenty pixels. This is a portrait format. We select just one size here. Always use the dimensions required for the actual channel or assignment.
Step 4
Click Copy and resize. Wait while Canva creates the new design. Choose Open Instagram Story when it is ready. Copying keeps our square original. Resize this design would change the design we are currently editing. Check which option you are using before you confirm.
Step 5
Inspect the portrait copy. Our cream background covers the whole page, and the message, colours and logo are still present. The text needs to be larger for our purpose. We will adjust the heading, event details and logo while keeping the same visual identity.
Step 6
Select the heading and set the font size to sixty-four. Press Enter. Open Position. Set Width to nine hundred, X to ninety, and Y to nine hundred. Press Enter after each value. Check that the full heading fits on one line and stays centred. These values fit this practice card.
Step 7
Select the event details and set the font size to thirty-six. Press Enter. Open Position. Set Width to nine hundred, X to ninety, and Y to one thousand one hundred. Press Enter after each value. Check the date, time and space between the two text boxes.
Step 8
Select the logo and open Position. Keep its proportions locked. Set Width to one hundred and eighty, X to four hundred and fifty, and Y to six hundred and fifty. Press Enter after each value. Close the panel and inspect the balance. The logo must not be stretched.
Step 9
Open Share, then Download. Choose PNG. Check the dimensions: one thousand and eighty by one thousand nine hundred and twenty pixels. Keep the visible background. Click Download and wait for the file. Inspect the exported image, including its edges, text and logo, before using it.
Step 10
Return to the square original. Open Share and Download. Check PNG and the dimensions: one thousand and eighty by one thousand and eighty pixels. Download this file too. Give the two exports clear names so you can choose the correct format later.
Step 11
Compare the two exported files. They share the same message, colours, fonts and logo, while each layout fits its format. Try another size yourself. Check every export separately. A finished original does not guarantee that every automatically resized copy is ready to use.
What you need
Open your own square practice design. Resize needs the relevant account access; a manual-copy alternative is explained. The recording shows the English interface.
