Adapt a Canva template for your own event
Adapt a different template for the same event and compare which layout is easiest to read.

Written steps
Step 1
On a blank presentation page, select Templates. Search for Green Modern Gardening Presentation. Search results can change: use the seedling cover demonstrated in the lesson, or practise with another suitable layout.
Step 2
Open the template and select its first page. Apply all 10 pages inserts the complete presentation. Check any crown indicator against your account access before choosing paid content.
Step 3
Double-click Gardening, replace it with Community garden day, then press Escape. Set the heading size to 64 and press Enter. Check that the complete heading fits.
Step 4
Replace the sample company name with Community Garden. Replace the placeholder paragraph with Saturday 15 May 2027, 10 am–1 pm · Community Garden, and Bring gloves and water, on three lines. Set this paragraph to size 28.
Step 5
Select and delete the unused Contact, About Us, Service and Home labels. Select and delete the decorative leaf covering the first letter of the heading.
Step 6
Check the whole page for leftover names, dates and sample text. Your edits affect your own design; they do not change the original template.

A template gives you a starting point with pictures, colours, and text. We will turn a gardening presentation into an invitation. We will keep the picture and replace the sample content with our own event details. Choose a layout that makes the information easy to understand. Start on a blank page and choose Templates on the left. Click the search field. For this exercise, search for Green Modern Gardening Presentation and press Enter. Search results can change over time. Look for the cover with a small seedling. A crown on an item means you should check whether your account includes it. Select the Green Modern Gardening Presentation with the seedling to see its pages. We only need the cover, so click the first thumbnail. Apply all ten pages would add the whole presentation. Wait for the picture and text to load on your page. Double-click the heading Gardening. Replace it with Community garden day and press Escape. Our heading is longer than the sample. Click the font size, select the number, enter sixty-four, and press Enter. Check that the whole heading fits. We will remove the leaf covering the first letter shortly. Double-click the small company name and replace it with Community Garden. Press Escape. Then double-click the placeholder text below the heading. Enter the date, time, place, and what guests should bring, on separate lines. Press Escape. Set the font size to twenty-eight and press Enter. Check that the date and time are clear. The template has details our invitation does not need. Select Contact and choose Delete. Remove About Us in the same way. Select it and choose Delete. Repeat this for Service, then Home. The sample navigation labels are now gone. Select the leaf covering the heading and choose Delete. The heading is now clear. You are changing your own page, not the original template. Here is the adapted invitation. The sample company name and placeholder text have been replaced. The date, time, and place describe our own event. Check the whole page for old names, dates, and unnecessary details. Try adapting a different template for the same event. Choose the layout that makes the information easiest to read.
