Find the right file quickly

Find the right file with search, stars, and shortcuts.

Written steps
  1. Search for file type and name

When you cannot remember which folder an assignment is in, you can search for it. Here we find the correct PDF and make it easy to open again. Click the slider icon, Advanced search, on the right side of the search field. Here you can combine several conditions. Open the Type field. Select PDFs. Then you are searching for PDF files. Type Opgavebeskrivelse in Item name. This searches in the file name. Includes the words can also search for words inside the file. Click Search. The result shows both PDFs and Title only. Under Location, you can see Materialer. Check the name and location if several files look alike. If you get no results, you can remove a filter with the cross or use Clear filters.

  2. Find your way back with stars

When you use the assignment often, you can give it a star. Right-click the file. Select Organise. Click Add to starred. Click Starred on the left. Here you find your starred files, no matter which folder they are in. A star does not move the file. The assignment description is now on the starred list. You can later remove the star via Organise and Remove from starred.

  3. Create and use a shortcut

If you also want to open the assignment from School assignments, you can create a shortcut. Right-click the assignment description. Select Organise again. Select Add shortcut. A shortcut points to the same file. It does not make an extra copy with its own content. Select School assignments as the shortcut location. Check the path at the bottom, and click the blue Add button. Let’s find the shortcut. Click once on the assignment description to see its location at the bottom. Click Materialer in the path. Drive shows the folder in the project. Click School assignments at the top to go up one level. Here is the shortcut with a small arrow on the file icon. Double-click it. The shortcut opens the original assignment description. By itself, it does not give other people access to the file. Try it yourself: Find an assignment with file type and a part of the name. Give it a star, and create a shortcut in your school folder. Check that both ways open the same assignment.
