Keep your school project organized

Name and move your material so the project is easy to navigate.

Written steps
  1. Create a subfolder

When you get several files for a school assignment, you need to be able to find your way around. Here we collect the assignment description in a subfolder and give the file a clear name. First open the project folder from the previous video. Click New at the top left to create a subfolder in Birds in the park. Choose New folder. That means a new folder. Type Materials. Use the subfolder for assignment descriptions and other things you need to read. Click Create. Now Materials is inside the project folder.

  2. Give the file a clear name

Also give the file a name that tells you what it is. Right-click the PDF file. Choose Rename, which means change the name. Type Assignment Description, hyphen, birds in the park, and keep the period PDF at the end. A clear name makes the file easier to recognize later. Click OK. The name changes, but the content of the assignment stays the same.

  3. Move and check the file

The file is still selected. Click the folder icon with the arrow, Move, in the toolbar. We move the existing file so we avoid two different copies. In the move window, click the current location, Birds in the Park. Then find the subfolder in the correct project. Next to Materials, click Move. Check the folder name before you move it. The PDF file is gone from the project folder list. Double-click Materials to check where it went. Here is Assignment Description, Birds in the Park. Double-click the file to check its contents. The task opens, and the four points are still there. You have changed the name and location, not the task itself. Now try it yourself in another school folder: Create Materials, give a file a clear name, and move it. Then open the file from the new folder. In the next video, you will quickly find it again with search and stars.
