Google Drive for schoolwork
Get an overview of the course, and choose the next step in your schoolwork.
Written steps
From first file to a safe overview
Do you have assignments, templates, and materials scattered in different places? In this course you will learn to gather your schoolwork in Google Drive and find it again. You must be signed in with the account you use for school. First you create a project folder and upload your assignment. Then you give the files clear names and gather the materials in subfolders. That way you know where the work belongs. When you need to continue with an assignment, you can search for it, use stars, and create shortcuts. You also learn the difference between a shortcut and an independent copy. A report template becomes your own working copy. You give the copy a clear name and check that it is the right file before you continue writing. You learn how to choose who may see your work, and what they may do. See the difference between reading, commenting, and editing, and check access before you share a link. If you need the materials on the computer, you download a file or an entire folder. You learn how to unzip the folder and check its contents. Here is a downloaded PDF opened in SumatraPDF. If you get an updated PDF, you can save it as a new version of the same file. You check the change and learn how to download an earlier version while it is still available. Finally, you learn how to find and restore a file you have lost. Follow the videos in order, and try each step with a non-sensitive practice task. That way you build your skills as you work.
