Written steps
Step 1
Open a video with its finished voiceover. These editable captions become part of the exported picture; they differ from view-only player captions.
Step 2
Choose Captions in the left sidebar, check the selected audio and choose Generate captions. Wait for the actual result. Automatic recognition is a draft and may differ between videos.
Step 3
Select the caption group. Choose Font size and 42 for this example, retain white text on a dark background, and move the group into the clear space above the heading. Check every scene and the outer margins.
Step 4
Choose Captions above the canvas, then Edit caption for the first block. Correct the capitals and insert a line break before 'on Saturday'. Save with Deselect, the checkmark.
Step 5
In the second caption, write 'ten' and 'one' as words. In the fourth, add a line break after 'water.' and use lower-case 'community garden'. Preserve the spoken meaning and check every other block against the voice.
Step 6
Choose Preview. Check that text appears with the speech and stays long enough to read. Inspect sentence breaks, readability and placement throughout the video.
Step 7
Close the preview. Choose Share, then Download. Check MP4 Video, 1080p and the complete 22-second duration. Choose Download and wait for Completed.
Step 8
Open the downloaded MP4 and play it from beginning to end with sound. Check the voice, captions and final sentence. These captions cannot be switched off in the export; keep the editable design for corrections.

Captions make a video easier to follow, including without sound. Here we create editable captions that become part of the exported picture. They are different from the player's view-only captions. Automatic text is a draft. Always compare its words, numbers, and names with the actual speech. Click Captions in the left sidebar. Check that the correct audio is selected. Click Generate captions and wait for the result. Canva recognises the English speech in this example. It creates five caption blocks. Your result may differ. Correct any mistakes before you share the video. The new captions are selected together. Click Font size and choose forty two from the list. Drag the captions into the clear space above the heading. We keep white text on a dark background. Check every scene: captions should leave space around the edges and keep important information visible. Click Captions above the canvas to open the transcript. Click the first Edit caption button. Correct the capitals and add a line break before on Saturday. Keep the spoken words in their original order. Click Deselect to save. Read every block and compare it with the voice. Do not guess unclear words. Edit the second caption to write ten and one as words. Save with the checkmark. In the fourth caption, use a line break after water and change community garden to lower case. This keeps the meaning and gives two clear lines. Review the remaining captions in the same way. Click Preview and check the caption timing. Text should appear with the spoken words and remain long enough to read. Check long sentences, line breaks, and the space near the edges. Automatic recognition does not guarantee readable captions. Correct the text or timing when needed. Close the preview, then click Share and Download. Check that the file type is MP4 Video and the quality is ten eighty p. Export the whole twenty two second video. Click Download and wait for the completed file. Clicking the button alone does not prove that an export is finished. Check the downloaded file from beginning to end. The voice should be clear, the last sentence complete, and the captions visible. Here the captions are part of the picture and cannot be switched off. Keep the editable Canva design for later corrections. Now review the complete invitation.
